Effect of Smoking Bans in Other Cities
Many businesses will be in a precarious position due to location.
Customers who prefer to smoke will simply drive across the Chicago
city line to patronize establishments in cities such as Evanston, Skokie,
Park Ridge, Oak Park, Evergreen Park, Blue Island, and Calumet City.
In addition, suburban residents who prefer a smoking enviroment will no
longer support bars and restaurants inside the Chicago city limits. This
double-whammy has led to a revenue decrease of anywhere between
25 to 50 percent for bars and restaurants in cities where bans have
already been enacted.
